Adult Summer Reading Club 

Did you know our Summer Reading Challenge is not just for kids?

 Register to participate in the Adult Summer Reading Challenge, which kicks off Saturday, June 8 and continues through Saturday, August 17. 

You can register and pick up your packet at the  Kick Off Party being held at the library on Saturday, June 8 from 1-3 p.m. or at the library front desk  any time after this date.

During this 10 week reading challenge, there are many ways for adults to participate and earn raffle tickets for a chance to win one of our great gift basket prizes (which will be on display at the library starting on June 8)! To receive your tickets, simply complete and return the activity sheets in the registration packet and come to any of our adult or all ages programs being offered throughout the summer. 

All gift basket winners will be picked at the end of the 10 week challenge. So you have all summer to keep earning and entering your raffle tickets!

Monthly Program - New Members Always Welcome

The Mystery and Mayhem Book Club: 
group normally meets @ 1 p.m. on the first Monday of every month. 
Read and discuss mystery and suspense books. Copies of the books will be available in adcvance at the front desk. Monthly book choices:

Evening Book Discussion Group: 
book discussions are held the third Monday of the month @ 7 p.m. in the library program room. Monthly book selections range from classics to best sellers. Copies of the books are available by request at the front desk.

Scrabble:
Come to the library every Monday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. for an enjoyable game of Scrabble. No need to register, just show us with a friend or two and have some fun.  Game boards are available, and will be set up on the tables in the Adult Reading Area for anyone to use on a first come, first served basis. No registration required.

The Scribe's Sanctuary: A Writer's Group: 
group meets the second Tuesday of every month 
in the library program room @ 6:30 p.m.

Looking for a group to ignite your natural creative writing talents in an encouraging and supportive environment?  Then this is the group for you!  Members offer and receive support and encouragements to other writers of all genre and writing levels.

Keep Calm and Color On: an adult coloring club meets on the second Wednesday of the month @ 2 p.m. in the Adult Reading Area.

Summer meeting dates: June 12, July 10, and August 14

Unwind: A Knitting and Crocheting Club meets the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at the tables outside of the program room on the lower level of the library.

Come and learn basic knitting and crocheting skills or work on our current project with likeminded friends. Share or recieve tips and advice with fellow crafters. You will need to bring your own needles and yarn.

Conversation Salon: group meets from 1-3 p.m., the first Friday of every month.

Music On the Lawn Summer Concert Series: 

select Tuesday's at 6 pm on the library's front lawn.

Chill out on the Library's front lawn for live acoustic, family friendly music. Each month, a few local TJ High School students will be performing for the opening acts at each concert, followed up with the acoustic soul music of the Zen Strings, a group of local musicians coming together just for your listening pleasure this summer!

July National Hot Dog Month and we will be selling grilled hot dogs on the front lawn for $1 during the performance, generously donated by Redemption Hill Church of Pleasant Hills.

Miniatures with Jim Allan: Tuesday, June 25 @ 6:30 p.m.

Jim Allan is a local artist who builds miniature structures of many locations and building types. Come and learn his creative process, see the tools and supplies he uses, and the exquisite detail of a few finished products. You'll be amazed at his creativity and talent!

History of Aviation Presentation:

Pleasant Hills Borough Council member and Aviation instructor, Cheryl Freedman, will be joining us to discuss her knowledge of the past, present, and future of aviation.

FAKENEWS - Making Sense of Media in the Era of Clickbait

Fake news is nothing new, but it feels more prevalent these days. Misleading or outright wrong information can reach more people more quickly via social media. Join Dr. Jessica Ghilani as she examines the historical framework for understanding fake news, discusses how we got to this point, and offers tips on how to fact-check the news.

Enjoy the eloquent speaking of Dr. Jack Aupperle for an educational and entertaining presentation of a current non-fiction book review. He normally presents at the library every other month throughout the year, but this summer we were able to schedule a few extra dates for your listening pleasure!
